Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Nondestructive Examination Specialist - Leak Testing to work on our Nuclear Material Acquisition team. Our team works a 4x10 schedule located out of our Materials & Fuels Complex facility with every Friday off.

You will apply technical knowledge to first-line inspections and testing/oversight. Perform technical reviews to maintain company level inspection procedures are accurate and correct. Perform in-process surveillances of complex wide program work to verify compliance with company quality program procedures. Perform examinations and/or inspections.  Collaborate technically across multiple fields, including Operations, Engineering, Production Control, and Maintenance.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Perform leak testing at MFC facilities.
  • Provide oversight to Quality personnel in directing quality control functions, inspections activities, and ensure assigned Quality activities are executed and reported. 
  • Perform direct observations of quality work performance as required to support various projects and work. 
  • Leverage understanding of the scope and limitations of the methods to provide effective on-the-job training and guidance of trainees. 
  • Conduct assessments/surveillances/audits. Act with peers and management to ensure that facility and program/project activities and related documentation maintain consistency. 
  • Develop quality inspection planning using quality engineering principles. 
  • Perform reviews of various facility documents, program documents, or project documents to provide input for quality items & processes. Ensure documents meet company quality requirements. 
  • Provide support to the control of items including cleaning and inspection operations. This includes drawing and specification reviews to ensure inspectable attributes of fabricated and in-service items. 
  • Participate in developing the quality program and implementing systems for programs/projects. Provide technical expertise, assistance, and advice to program, project, facility management and personnel relative to quality compliance and implementation issues. 
  • Collaborate in providing solutions to resolve facility, program, or project compliance issues. 
  • Training and Certification Program Responsibilities are by assignment and may include the following: 
    • Inspector Certification activities in support of the INL Inspector Certification Program.
    • Develop and conduct training related to the certified methods.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Level 1: Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalency and at least 6 years of direct/relevant experience. 
  • Level 2: Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalency and at least 8 years of direct/relevant experience.
  • ASNT NDE Level III Leak Testing Certification.
  • Nuclear NDE and quality inspection experience.
  • INL Quality Engineer qualification (must be able to achieve qualification within the first 6 months of assignment).
  • Radiation Worker II qualification (must be able to obtain and maintain within the first 6 months of assignment).
  • Obtain and maintain all required job-related exam and position qualifications.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship. 

Preferred Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering or related science or technology field.
  • Visual, Radiographic, or Liquid Penetrant NDE certification or experience.

Job Information: 

  • The pay range for this position is: Level 1 ($93,204 - $191,076) / Level 2 ($111,888 - $229,284). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials. 
  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment. 
  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.
