Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be at least 21 years old by date of hire.
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to complete, obtain, and maintain all certifications for all training requirements, such as firearms, use of force, defensive tactics, etc.
  • Must be able to qualify for and obtain and maintain DOE Q clearance and the DOE Human Reliability Program (HRP) as applicable. SPOs are required to fulfill positions holding a high level of trust and are required to have an initial thorough background/clearance investigation and psychological evaluation in order to obtain a Q security clearance and acceptance into the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If an individual cannot obtain and/or maintain a Q clearance or HRP qualification from initial screening or subsequent reviews will be grounds for termination of employment.
    • Some areas that will be monitored will include: Illegal drug use, Legal (prescription) drug abuse, Alcohol abuse, Financial stability and responsibility, Psychological stability, Arrests and probation
  • Current Q clearance is strongly preferred.
  • Must be able to meet DOE physical fitness standards as required by 10 CFR Part 1046 Medical, Physical Readiness, Training, and Access Authorization Standards for Protective Force Personnel, Advanced Readiness Standard. This standard applies to SPOs assigned to response force duties.
  • New hires have to meet the following Physical Fitness Test:
    • One mile run with maximum qualifying time of 8 minutes 30 seconds.
    • 5-minute rest
    • 40-yard prone-to-running dash with maximum qualifying time of 8.0 seconds
    • 3-minute rest

NOTE: Failure to perform the 1-mile run and the 40-yard dash within the respective qualifying times will result in immediate dismissal from the tryout and new hire process. Disqualifying conditions as addressed in 10 CFR Part 1046; Medical, Physical Readiness, Training and Access Authorization Standards for Protective Force Personnel.

Job Information

  • Salary: (1) Training: $26.77/hour, (2) After receiving all clearances and qualifications: $36.28/hour
  • Rate can vary based upon individual work location, clearances, and qualifications. Rates are accurate for current posting and subject to change. These are bargaining unit positions.

  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; It will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of employment.
