Materials & Fuels Complex-MFC (Uxxx)

Reporting to the Director of the Materials and Fuels Complex Projects Division, you will join our dynamic team whose mission is to provide engineering support to the nuclear fuels and materials research facilities. MFC is the prime testing center the United States for advanced technologies associated with nuclear energy power systems. This complex is the nexus of research on new reactor fuels and related materials. MFC contributes significantly to the development of increasingly efficient fuels and the important work of nonproliferation.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Define requirements and develop design concepts
  • Complete and document detailed design
  • Develop engineering documents such as drawings, specifications, and calculations to support work assignments
  • Provide engineering support during equipment installation
  • Perform system and component testing and surveillance
  • Perform data collection and analysis
  • Solve equipment issues
  • Maintain configuration of assigned facilities and systems

This team works a 4x10 schedule and works onsite at the Materials and Fuels Complex near Idaho Falls, Idaho. Your start date and duration of internship vary based on project and your availability. You may be eligible for course credit for this internship if approved by your university.

  • Must be registered and eligible to participates in their university co-op education program.
  • Undergraduate students enrolled full time at an accredited college or university in Architectural Engineering.

  • A minimum overall 3.0 GPA

  • Maintenance of good academic standing in an undergraduate program of study at college/university for the duration of co-op participation

  • Authorization to work in the U.S. (including CPT and OPT)

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Undergraduate Internships ($25.65/hour - $30.70/hour)
  • Masters Internships and PhD Internships Pre-Candidacy ($31.75/hour - $34.06/hour)
  • PhD Internships Post-Candidacy ($33.75/hour - $36.06/hour)
  • Eligible interns are provided paid holiday time off, and many of our internships offer travel reimbursements.
  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on degree field and level of education.
