Idaho National Laboratory seeks a skilled chemical engineering Postdoc with strong expertise in modeling and analysis of fluid flow and heat transfer processes involving chemical or nuclear reactions (such as radiolysis and corrosion). Experience with particle-laden flows is highly desirable. Reporting to the project investigator, the role primarily involves modeling and simulation to support tank waste vitrification and spent nuclear fuel dry storage systems.
Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Idaho Falls facility with every other Friday off.
Responsibilities Include:
- You will develop computational models integrating interdisciplinary skills in fluid flow, heat transfer, chemistry, materials science, nuclear science, and engineering.
- Have a deep understanding of and experience in modeling complex physical processes.

Minimum Requirements:
- Ph.D. in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, or related field.
- Ph.D. requirements must be completed by commencement of appointment and within the previous 5 years.
- Fluency in the English language and excellent oral and written communication skills.
- This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
- On-site position in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
Preferred Experience:
- Computational chemistry or thermodynamics (FACSIMILE, Cantera, CHEMKIN, FactSage, ThermoCalc)
- Machine learning/artificial intelligence algorithms
- High performance computing, scripting and batch processing
- LINUX, Python programming
- An established record of achievement through reports, publications, intellectual property, or presentations
Job Information:
- The target salary for this position is $101,196. At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
- TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, use hands to handle materials, manipulate tools, keyboard and type, reach with hands and arms, and operate job related equipment.
