Co-op Internship Materials and Fuels Complex Mechanical Engineer
The Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) at the Idaho National Lab is a prime testing center the United States for advanced technologies associated with nuclear energy power systems. This complex is the nexus of research on new reactor fuels and related materials. MFC contributes significantly to the development of increasingly efficient reactor fuels and the important work of nonproliferation.
As a Mechanical Co-Op Engineer at the Materials & Fuels Complex (MFC) with the Idaho National Laboratory, you will be joining our dynamic team whose mission is to provide engineering support to the nuclear fuels and materials research facilities.
In this role you will be mentored in order to apply your knowledge in mechanical engineering based on your skill set and your career goals. Typical mechanical engineering work would include creating engineering designs, drawings, specifications, and implementation documents for nuclear facilities and systems.
Responsibilities may include:
• Define requirements and develop design concepts
• Complete and document detailed design
• Develop engineering documents such as drawings, specifications, and calculations to support work assignments
• Complete and document details design to include confirmation code compliance, issuing design documents, developing materials and part lists, inspection plans, etc.
• Perform system and component testing and surveillance
• Perform calculations to support designs
• Maintain configuration of assigned facilities and systems.
Intern will stop work if an ES&H qualify or safeguards and security concern exist.
• Intern will identify equipment and facility needs to fulfill position role.
• Intern will provide suggestions for improvements
Intern will perform work under the direction of the mentor and line manager.
• Intern will comply with Laboratory policies, rules, standards, and procedures.
• Intern will perform quality work effectively, efficiently, on time, and in accordance with defined expectations. Intern will protect intellectual property, proprietary information and national security information.
- Enrolled student status in a US accredited academic program or an INL identified International collaboration university.
- Pass a background check.
- Maintenance of good academic standing in an undergraduate program of study at college/university for the duration of co-op participation
- Have and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0
- Registration in their university co-op education program
- Eligible to participate per their universities program
- Signed co-op agreement between the student and university, submitted to INL Business experience/coursework in: Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
