Idaho National Laboratory’s (INL) Office of General Counsel group is seeking forward-thinking professionals interested in exploring a career as a Corporate Patent Attorney! Our team works onsite in Idaho Falls with a 9x80 schedule with every other Friday off.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Serve as Patent and Intellectual Property Counsel for the Laboratory.
  • Provide legal support for business agreements, patents, copyrights, licenses and other legal services in support of the laboratory mission.
  • Provide creative, timely and effective legal advice to management related to intellectual property and other business issues.
  • Coordinate effective use of outside patent counsel.
  • Demonstrate and model INL values and standards of conduct.
  • Provide legal advice and support on a wide range of issues, including corporate governance, contracts, regulatory compliance, intellectual property, employment law, and litigation.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents to ensure the company’s and INL’s interests are protected.
  • Advise on compliance with federal and state laws and regulations applicable to the company’s operations.
  • Manage and oversee litigation and dispute resolution processes, working with external counsel as necessary.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to identify and mitigate legal risks associated with business operations and projects.
  • Conduct legal research and stay updated on relevant laws and regulations to provide timely and accurate legal advice.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance and best practices.
  • Provide training and educational sessions to staff on legal topics and compliance matters.
  • Represent the company in negotiations, hearings, and other legal proceedings as required.
  • Support the General Counsel in various legal and administrative tasks as needed.
  • Maintain proficiency in all assigned areas of law.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Minimum Requirements:

Level 5-Law degree (accredited school) and 6 years of active legal practice experience.

Level 6-Law degree (accredited school) and 10 years of active legal practice experience.

The candidate must (1)have passed the patent bar;(2) be admitted to practice in at least one state within the United States; and (3) be eligible for reciprocal admission to Idaho or willing to take the Idaho State bar exam within the next year.

  • The candidate must be experienced in all phases of patent prosecution and intellectual property law.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with clients, customers and coworkers.
  • Must be able to independently manage his time and to meet all commitments to clients.
  • Must be able to demonstrate regular and predictable attendance at meetings with clients, customers, outside counsel, in-house co-counsel and other co-workers.
  • Employee must be and remain current on laws impacting his area of practice.
  • Employee must remain an active license to practice law and comply with all fitness and continuing education requirements of the Idaho State Bar and any other jurisdiction in which employee is licensed.

Job Information:

The pay range for this position is: Salary level 5 ($137,076-$281,196) Level 6 ($164,592-$337,428). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.

Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.

Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, 
bend, and work in an office and field/laboratory environment. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type, 
handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires operation of job-related equipment 
and driving a vehicle. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Sufficient visual acuity and 
hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with the public is required. Reasonable accommodations
