Responsibilities |
Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking a Data Network Engineer to join the Infrastructure Team. This position is one that utilizes engineering knowledge, practices, and techniques to solve applied and
operational problems related to communications infrastructure. As a member of a team of network engineers and specialists, provide design and troubleshooting support for both internal and external INL data network customers. Secondary responsibilities include Citrix NetScaler and Web Application Firewall appliance administration, BlueCat IPAM/DNS/DHCP appliance administration, RSA SecurID Authentication Manager appliance administration, Network Tap infrastructure design, administration and installation, and coordination of multiple support contracts. Other responsibilities include resolution of network problems, optimization of systems and protocols, support of change management, network design, implementation, customer interface, patching, testing and upgrading network appliances/servers, and specialized maintenance and network management/monitoring operations. As a network infrastructure Engineer/Technical Operation Professional, you are responsible for the design of network infrastructure, implementation of LAN, WAN, and work with various departments such as Wireless Testbed, SCADA Testbed, Diskless/Classified, Cyber Operations, and software development to assist in the testing and design of data networks to meet the specific test/program requirements. Must be able to manage multiple concurrent tasks or projects with limited or no supervision, and occasionally serve as a team leader for small projects and/or major project tasks. This position is one that uses engineering knowledge, practices, and techniques to solve applied and operational problems related to IT infrastructure. Participates as a team member and contributor in areas which include network/telecommunications, network security, network management, network engineering, and network operations. Be familiar with and contribute to team process and assigned support activities. Independently interacts with peers at the group level and reports problems and possible solutions to management. As part of normal job duties, will be required to be in an on-call status to be able to promptly respond to and address user/customer needs. Additionally is a peer member of a team of network engineers and specialists providing design and troubleshooting support for both internal and external INL data network (INET) customers and optical transport customers. Responsibilities include resolution of significant network problems, optimization of systems and protocols, support of change management, network design, implementation, customer interface, and specialized maintenance and network operations. As a peer network infrastructure Engineer/Technical Operation Professional, you are responsible for the design of network infrastructure, implementation of optical networks, LAN, WAN, and Wireless networks, performs deployment, upgrades, and tailoring network hardware/software to meet the needs of the INL, troubleshoot and document repair procedures for data infrastructure problems. Work with various departments such as Wireless TestBed, Scada Testbed, Physical Security, Life Safety, Homeland Security, etc., to assist in the testing and design of data and optical networks to meet the specific test/program requirements. Uses diagnostic software and tools to correctly analyze and troubleshoot problems. Ensures that potential solutions are thoroughly researched and evaluated against problem characteristics, system usage and configurations. Ensure that a risk analysis is conducted for proposed solutions. The problem and potential solutions are clearly documented and justified at the appropriate level of detail. The proposed solution and implementation plan are approved and communicated in a timely and understandable manner. Estimated of scope of work, time, materials and interdependencies are accurately identified. Implementation of the solution is conducted with minimum disruption to users. |

Minimum Qualification Requirements (Education and/or Experience): Level 1: BS degree or 8 years relevant experience in lieu of a degree. Level 2: BS degree plus 2 years of experience or 10 years relevant experience in lieu of a degree. Experience in communications infrastructure, wireless, and traditional computer networks for a large organization. Knowledge of DOE and other regulatory policies. LAN/WAN management, and data /voice, SONET, Optical, communications products. Proven experience with computer security, telecommunications, and information technology concepts and methods. Ability to analyze and solve problems and communicate effectively at all levels. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair. Layer 2 and Layer 3 routing/switching architectures. Protocols: Internet protocol suite - TCP/IP. Routing: Cisco IOS, NXOS and IP routing protocols, OSPF, BGP, etc. Enterprise network management applications. | ||
