Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Bachelor's Degree in Fire Protection Engineering Technology* (see definition below) plus 0-2+ years of relevant experience or a Master's degree in Engineering or Master's degree in Fire Protection Engineering Technology plus 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Fire Protection Engineer (FPE): A graduate of an accredited engineering curriculum who has completed not less than four years of engineering schooling, three of which were in responsible charge of diverse fire protection engineering work.
  • If not such a graduate, an individual should either: demonstrate knowledge of the principles of fire protection engineering showing evidence by specific academic courses and written examination in the related curriculum of physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences, and have completed not less than six years engineering practice, three of which in responsible charge of DOE-STD-1066-2016 diverse fire protection engineering projects, or be a registered professional engineer in fire protection. Federal FPEs under the Department’s Federal Technical Capability Program (see DOE O 426.1, Federal Technical Capability) are qualified according to DOE-STD-1137-2014, Fire Protection Engineering
  • Functional Area Qualification Standard, or its predecessors.
  • All applicants must meet the qualification requirements set out in DOE-STD-1066 (2016) for a qualified Fire Protection Engineer to be considered for the position.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

Job Information

  • Salary Grade PR0100: 200 ($81,288 - $134,100) / Salary Grade PR0200: 210 ($93,492 - $154,212)

  • TDP: Testing designated position; It will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of employment.
