Responsibilities
INL Environmental and Geological Engineering Department is seeking a candidate to support program R&D and operational needs associated with the disposition of radiological source materials. You will function as technical support for the source recovery program with responsibility for mechanical design, electronics, remote robotic system application, advanced welding technology application, nuclear cask operational support, and safety/compliance tasks for all of the projects in the program. You will work closely with line and program managers in packaging and transportation and radiological controls to ensure safety and regulatory compliance to all source recovery activities.
You will gain and use knowledge of mechanical design, robotic systems, advanced welding and nuclear material handling to identify and create solutions for complex nuclear source recovery and disposition. You will have a basic knowledge of nuclear material handling policies and procedures related to the recovery and disposal of source material.
Further, you will support program leadership in representing EES&T capabilities within this scope to both external and internal customers. Work is performed at a level that actions may have high visibility at the associate laboratory director level. Some travel is required. |

Bachelor's degree in a technical field plus 8 years of relevant professional experience.
• Demonstrated skills in advanced mechanical design, welding technology, remote systems, team organization and scheduling, and laboratory off-site work operations. • Eight years of mechanical design, mechanical hands-on, and welding experience applicable to applied R&D and operations. • Skill in oral and written communication and applying team building concepts. • Excellent communication skills, personable, detailed oriented, and experience in interfacing with management and technical personnel at all levels. Must be a US citizen. Must be able to obtain and maintain a US DOE clearance.
