Responsibilities
The Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking a well-qualified Postdoctoral Associate in Agricultural/Biological/Chemical/Forestry Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science or comparable disciplines for the Bioenergy Technologies Department. You will be expected to be a strong asset to our interdisciplinary R&D team and work effectively both alone and as a team member. You must be self-motivated but also take direction from other team members and peers.
This position involves the planning and execution of research and development activities associated with bioenergy analysis, including the development and integration of models and analysis tools for biomass production, logistics, and quality assessment in bioenergy related systems. You will develop new state of the art solutions for optimizing computational and analysis resources in bioenergy life cycle analysis, logistics modeling, sustainable production modeling, and biomass conversion process modeling in support of the current analysis portfolio and products. These analysis resources include development and deployment of high performance computing solutions, analysis tools, web-based software, and database interface solutions to enhance model platforms and frameworks for both internal and external collaborators.
You will support INL bioenergy leadership in meeting DOE/industry expectations, milestones, and deliverables, and INL internal reporting metrics. You will work on the coordination, analysis, and delivery of model results to technical and platform leads. You will be expected to prepare and contribute to technical reports and presentations at national technical meetings and project reviews with program sponsors. Additionally it is expected that the work will result in publications in refereed journals.

MINIUMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
PhD in Agricultural/Biological/Chemical/Forestry Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science or comparable disciplines. PhD requirements must be completed by commencement of appointment and within the previous 5 years. Demonstrated oral and published written communication skills in English. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Deep understanding of biomass supply and processing systems or similar (i.e. agricultural or forest products manufacturing) obtained through prior experience in analysis of bioenergy feedstock logistics modeling, bioenergy life cycle analysis, sustainable production modeling, or biomass conversion process modeling. This position requires experience computational analysis and model development. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. You must have a good publication record in relevant fields of research. Skills and experience with programming and software development is desired. Examples of skills are programming (i.e., C, C++, VBA, SQL, Matlab, etc.), system dynamics (i.e., PowerSim, Stella, etc.), scripting language (i.e., Javascript, Python, etc.), geographic information software (i.e., ArcGIS 10, etc.), statistical analysis software (i.e., Minitab, SAS base, etc.), database software (i.e., MySQL, SQLight, etc.), simulation software (i.e., Promodel, Arena, etc.), mathematical optimization software (i.e., ILOG CPLEX, GAMS, etc.), and operating systems (i.e., Windows, Linux, etc. |
