Idaho National Laboratory’s (INL) Environmental Health Safety & Quality (ESHQ) group is seeking forward-thinking professionals interested in exploring a career as an Environmental Support & Services Director! Our team works onsite with a 9x80 schedule located at our Idaho Falls facility.

This position reports to the Executive Director of ESH&Q. As the leader of the Environmental Support and Services (ES&S) Division, you will need to provide your team with inspirational Leadership, embrace a culture of continuous improvement, clearly articulate goals and have a compelling vision for the ES&S Division. You must have the ability to make informed decisions, while promoting an environment where feedback is encouraged, Implement clear strategies that support all areas of the Idaho National Laboratory that includes Nuclear and Non-Nuclear areas. Be an example of the lab values and serve as a mentor for your team to help them meet their full potential.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide management and oversight and direction for INL’s Environmental Support & Services (ES&S) Division which includes approximately 85 employees and 69 staff augmentation subcontractors for Waste Management and Chemical Services deployed at REC and the INL site mission centers.  
  • Develop strategies and establish documented operating procedures for implementation of environmental requirements. Ensure such processes are aligned and integrated with other management systems and are deployed appropriately.
    Identify, interpret, and adjudicate differences of positions and approaches to satisfy Environmental requirements. Work within broadly defined guidelines to provide effective and efficient oversight of all activities in support of the lab’s mission.
  • Manage subordinate environmental technical staff who implement the environmental management system. Lead the Environmental Division, provide mentorship to staff, perform succession planning, and coordinate resources.
  • Perform or direct the performance of administrative responsibilities to include budget preparation and administration, staffing, employee relations, personnel development, employee performance appraisals, salary administration, promotions/demotions, recognition programs, and other required administrative or personnel actions.
  • Provide ongoing and accurate communications with the Executive ESH&Q Director, DOE, and other partners.
  • Articulate environmental principles through writings and presentations to a diverse audience, including staff, senior executives, other DOE laboratories, DOE officials and regulatory agencies.
  • Develop consensus with a broad spectrum of partners including internal and external organizations. 
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the ESH&Q Director.

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Bachelors of Science in engineering or a scientific field, with 8 years quality related experience and (5) years of management experience, or advanced degree and 6 years quality related experience.
  • Demonstrated line management success in the development of staff.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship. 

Desired Experience:

  • 15 years of quality related experience and an advanced degree.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills with experience working with a variety of levels within an organization.
  • Possess working knowledge of all relevant policies such as ISMS, conduct of Operations, Conduct of Research, and Conduct of Maintenance.
  • Have working knowledge and experience with budgets and financial reporting

Physical Requirements: 

While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, and work in an office and field/laboratory environment. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type, handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job may require operation of job-related equipment and driving a vehicle. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with people is required. Job Information: 

  • Salary Grade: The target pay range for this position is ( $165,026 - $240,150). The full pay range is (124,828  - $324,600). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
