Responsibilities
Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer. In this role you will serve as the fire alarm system engineer and design authority; review design proposals, system modifications, assist in preparation and review of design packages; oversee construction, installation, and test activities and maintains configuration control. The Fire Protection Engineer functions as the engineering subject matter expert (SME) and system engineer (SE) for INL/BEA owned systems. You will be responsible to: - Develop and maintain design basis documentation for assigned LSS Fire Alarm Systems such as System Design Descriptions, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams/Drawings, electrical one –lines, set point lists, Master Equipment Lists, etc.provide configuration control for INL/BEA owned fire alarm and warning communication systems. - Develop/review new design changes and modifications that support code compliant operations. - Evaluate surveillance test results for compliance with acceptance criteria. - Perform walkdowns of Fire Alarm systems to determine system health, material condition, and performance. - Interface with fire protection engineers, design engineers, facility engineers, and technical staff to address problems and issue identified during repair or modification to ensure code compliance requirements are met. You will also interface with the Life Safety Systems staff to ensure safe, compliant, and effective operation and maintenance of the fire alarm and warning communication systems. |

Bachelors degree in Engineering plus 7 years relevant experience in the area of Fire Alarms and Detection Systems or Fire Suppression Systems.
Must be able to obtain and maintain an active Department of Energy (DOE) "L" clearance. Candidates in these position must have: - In-depth knowledge of legacy and state-of-the-art fire protection equipment. - Thorough knowledge NFPA code as relates to fire alarm, fire detection systems, and fire suppression systems - Working level knowledge of controls, system integration, safety codes, electrical codes, and standards. - Valid drivers license - National Institute Certification for Engineering Technology (NICET) Level IV in Fire Alarms, and/or working to achieve certification is preferred. - NFPA Certification as Fire Protection Specialist is preferred. | ||
