Reporting to the Wireless Researcher Senior Manager, you will support embedded programming for radio prototype implementation. This project aims to enhance our radio systems through improvements in Automatic Gain Control (AGC), overall radio performance, and RF (Radio Frequency) characterization and testing.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Embedded Programming:
    1. Develop and optimize embedded software for radio prototypes. 
    2. Implement and fine-tune Automatic Gain Control (AGC) algorithms. 
    3. Collaborate with the hardware team to ensure seamless integration of software and hardware components. 
  2. Radio Improvement:
    1. Assist in enhancing the performance and reliability of radio systems. 
    2. Conduct performance analysis and identify areas for improvement. 
    3. Implement software updates and modifications to improve system efficiency. 
  3. RF Characterization and Testing:
    1. Perform RF characterization of radio prototypes to ensure compliance with technical specifications. 
    2. Conduct various tests, including sensitivity, selectivity, and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) measurements. 
    3. Analyze test data and generate detailed reports on performance metrics.

This team works a 9x80 schedule onsite at our Research Education Campus facility in Idaho Falls, ID. Start date and duration of internship vary based on project and student availability. You may be eligible for course credit for this internship if approved by your university.

  • Undergraduate junior-senior, Masters, or PhD student enrolled full time at an accredited college/university studying Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Telecommunications, or a closely related field

  • A minimum overall 3.0 GPA

  • This position may require the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" or “Q” clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Undergraduate Internships ($26.16/hour - $31.47/hour)

  • Masters Internships and PhD Internships Pre-Candidacy ($32.87/hour - $35.26/hour)

  • PhD Internships Post-Candidacy ($35.95/hour - $38.41/hour)

  • Eligible interns are provided paid holiday time off, and many of our internships offer travel reimbursements.

  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on degree field and level of education.
