Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Security Systems Director to lead our Physical Security Systems team. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Research and Education Campus with every other Friday off.

You will provide leadership at Idaho National Laboratory (INL) by overseeing the Physical Security Systems and Security Engineering departments, which includes design, installation, maintenance, and components for various programs, including those of the Department of Energy Idaho Operations Office (DOE-ID), the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), and the Idaho Environmental Coalition (IEC). You will report directly to the Associate Lab Director of the Safeguards and Security organization.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Oversee configuration management of component installation, modification, repairs, preventive maintenance, system performance trending, testing, and evaluation.
  • Lead development of and identify new, state-of-the-art engineering concepts and systems to ensure cost-effective protection strategies for INL and DOE, and integrate robust cybersecurity methodologies into current intrusion detection, access control, and video systems.
  • Manage activities through second or third level managers. Manage professional employees and subordinate managers from multiple disciplines. 
  • Manage security-related locks, keys, and electronic systems for DOE-ID and INL. This includes handling new projects, work-control planning, procedure creation and control, scheduling, cost control, and performance measurement validation.
  • Frequently collaborate with with various INL teams, such as Protective Force, Vulnerability Assessment, Physical Security, Performance Testing, Material Control and Accountability, Facilities and Site Services, ATR, SMC, MFC operations, EES&T, N&HS, and Nuclear Science and Technology to ensure seamless integration and effective security management sitewide.
  • Lead the organization during the DOE’s Office of Enterprise Assessments periodic assessment surveys and evaluations of existing intrusion detection systems to ensure satisfactory performance and the proper protection of INL’s assets.
  • Define roles and responsibilities, delegate authorities as required, and provide career development and mentoring opportunities for staff
  • Be responsible for the effective operation of activities of major significance to the organization.
  • Oversee the division’s budget, schedule, and scope, and serve as the Security Director for the INL Emergency Operations Center. Ensure the continuous improvement and high performance of security systems at INL via collaboration with other Battelle entities to establish a "community of practice" relationship. 
  • Participate in the development of overall objectives and long-term goals of the division and the directorate.
  • Establish and administer operational objectives, policies, procedures, and work plans, and delegate assignments to subordinates.
  • Develop, modify, and execute company policies that affect immediate operations and may also have company-wide effect.
  • Interact regularly with lower and/or senior management on matters concerning several functional areas, department, and/or customers.

 

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in a technical field such as Engineering or related field and a minimum 8 years’ experience in field of practice, 5 of which should be in a management or leadership role.
  • Strong background in security systems and in design and analysis, fiber optics, and data acquisition. 
  • Familiar with represented contract negotiations. 
  • Experience in alarm assessment systems, access control systems, barrier and lighting systems, vulnerability assessments, security planning, false/nuisance alarm trending, and performance testing.
  • Proven record of teamwork, consensus building, mentoring, and motivation of peers and subordinates.
  • Knowledge of Security Systems, NRC procedures and methods, technical methods and applications.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship. 

Job Information: 

  • The target pay range for this position is ($165,026 - $240,150) annually. The full pay range is ($124,848 - $324,600). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials. 
  • HRP-Human Reliability Program:  You will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and continued drug testing throughout the term of your employment.

Physical Requirements

  • While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, and work in an office and field/laboratory environment. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type, handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires operation of job-related equipment and driving a vehicle. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with people is required.
