Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property Analyst to work on our Commercial Partnerships & Tech Transitions team. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located in Idaho Falls with every other Friday off. 

You will provide professional support to others at INL that are engaged in business intelligence, asset management, accomplishing INL's technology transfer Mission. This is a 2-year project hire position.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Perform assessments and reviews of technology business landscapes for Principal Investigators (PI) including prior art and business intelligence for new business partner identification using commercially available software tools, such as PatSnap, Innography, USPTO, Frost & Sullivan, etc.
  • Collaborate with Technology Deployment (TD) Commercialization Managers to establish strategic relationships with external customers, INL management, DOE Office of Technology Transitions Programs.
  • Assist with innovation and commercialization initiatives, and technical staff in support of INL’s broad technology deployment mission.
  • Provide intellectual property management expertise, including patents, copyrights. Evaluate and protect intellectual property through assessments, prior art searches, and competitive landscape analysis.
  • Assist Commercialization Managers on the development and execution of licensing agreements, from negotiation through implementation.
  • Develop and implement marketing strategies to promote INL technologies across various industries. This includes creating marketing materials and presenting technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Conduct thorough market research to assess the commercialization potential of new inventions and emerging technologies. Provide business intelligence and decision support to facilitate industry partnerships.
  • Collaborate with Technology Deployment Commercialization Managers to build strategic relationships with external customers, INL management, and DOE Office of Technology Transitions Programs.
  • Manage INL’s intellectual property processes, including invention disclosures, technology maturation programs, and IP valuation efforts. Provide comprehensive analysis to support intellectual asset management and commercialization efforts.
  • Support innovation and commercialization initiatives by working closely with technical staff and stakeholders to advance INL’s mission of technology deployment.
  • Coordinate with the Information Technology database manager to maintain and improve intellectual property management systems, including innovation intake and tracking tools.
  • Engage with Principal Investigators (PIs) to develop and manage tech-to-market plans, identify potential partners and licensees, and support outreach efforts for the Technology Deployment team.
  • Contribute to performance metrics, ensuring timely review and processing of invention disclosures, intellectual property evaluations, and licensing opportunities.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Level 1: Bachelor’s and 0 years of experience.
  • Level 2: Bachelor’s and 2 years of experience. Master’s and 0 years of experience. PhD and 0 years' experience.

Related experience may include prior work and comprehension skills in science and technology and patent agent/patent engineering.

Ideally, the incumbent of this role will have demonstrated ability to integrate AI into workflows to enhance productivity. 

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship. 

Job Information: 

  • The pay range for this position is: Level 1 ($56,196 - $109,644) / Level 2 ($65,064 - $133,416). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, and work in an office environment. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type, handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires the operation of office equipment. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with people is required.
