Responsibilities
 
The Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking applicants Computer Network Engineer reporting to the MFC Digital Controls and Information Systems (DCIS) Department Manager. 
INL is recognized as the lead national laboratory for DOE-NE, providing much of the nuclear research, development, and demonstration capability needed to move nuclear innovation forward to deployment. MFC hosts a unique combination of personnel, facilities and infrastructure and offers the ability to perform research and development of nuclear fuels from fuel design, development and fabrication through post irradiation analysis.   
 
The computer network engineer is responsible for performing duties associated with the MFC private facility control network (PFCN).  These duties include network system administration and maintenance of a mixture of network, server, and desktop infrastructure hardware, as well as related operating systems and software applications. The engineer evaluates, designs, develops, tests, installs and maintains solutions for new and current control network applications. 
 
Functions:
  • Perform duties related to network, server, and desktop administration / management to including monitoring computer and network equipment operation; network switch configuration, maintenance and replacement; setting up and maintaining software and hardware backups; hardware and software patch remediation; upgrade installations to existing applications; active directory, LDAP, and group policy administration; adding and removing users; operating system and application setting adjustments to improve operation; cyber security monitoring; database performance monitoring and adjustment; recommending and initiating equipment replacements; desktop support activities including hardware and software maintenance  and replacement.
  • Selects and widely applies principles, theories, and concepts in major field of specialization and cyber security.
  • Contributes to development of new principles and concepts.
  • Suggests and explains technical approach for solving problems and meeting client needs.

 

Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Technologies or other technical related field with 5 years of experience or a Master of Science Degree and 3 years of experience.  Non-degreed experience with 15-20 years of relevant network engineering experience with Cisco network products will be considered.

 

Must be a US Citizen and have the ability and willingness to obtain and maintain a DOE "Q" clearance. 

 

Required Skills:

·         Experience in Solaris/UNIX/Linux/Microsoft Windows based system administration.

·         Wireless networking experience.

·         Cisco Switch configuration and deployment experience (5+ years)

·         Cisco Mobility Service Engine (MSE) experience (2+ years)

·         Cisco Prime Infrastructure experience (4+ years)

·         Cisco Identity Service Engine (ISE) experience (3+ years)

·         Network design.

·         Firewall administration experience.

·         Thin client deployment and configuration.

·         Ability to be a strong team player and effectively organize and lead tasks.

·         Ability to communicate with both business and technical audiences.

·         Desktop support experience.

·         Strong customer service abilities.

 

Preferred Skills:

·         VMware ESXi hosts, VMware Horizon VDI, VMware vCenter Server, PaloAlto Networks firewall and TRAPS administration.

·         Any or all of the following certifications: CompTIA A+, CompTIA Server+, CompTIA Net+, CompTIA Security+, Cisco CCNA
