Responsibilities
 
Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking applicants for a Nuclear Fuels Engineer.  Responsible for leading and/or contributing to planning, designing, and analyzing irradiation experiments to be conducted in a variety of test beds including Advanced Test Reactor (ATR) using traditional and advanced PIE in order to evaluate the performance of advanced nuclear fuels and materials. Responsible for developing postirradiation examination plans, overseeing data collection, reduction and analysis of the performance data, and publication of results in internal reports and the open literature.
 
Suggest, lead and/or participate in teams of scientists and engineers to manage, perform, and report programmatic activities. Contribute to and participate in development of research proposals through funding opportunities such as NEUP, NEET, etc.

BS degree in science or engineering plus 5 years relevant experience or a MS degree in science or engineering plus 3 years relevant experience or a PhD in science or engineering plus 2 years relevant experience.


Advanced degree preferred (M.S. or Ph.D.) in nuclear engineering or related discipline is preferred. An understanding of the performance issues of fuels and materials under irradiation is required. Experience in the planning, design, irradiation testing, and/or postirradiation examination of fuels and materials experiments is desirable. Familiarity with facilities and instruments unique to in-pile testing and post-irradiation examination is a plus. Should have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
 
Must be a US Citizen.  Must be able to obtain and maintain a US DOE L-clearance.
