Materials & Fuels Complex-MFC (Uxxx)

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Text Processing Clerk to work on our Document Management team. Our team works a  4x10 schedule located out of our Materials and Fuels Complex with every Friday off.

You will type, scan, convert, compose, design, and format pages, both mechanically and electronically. Produce documents such as corporate/technical reports, newsletters, brochures, flyers, and presentation overheads incorporating text, equations, tables, complex page layouts with graphics, and electronic publishing. Develop and use templates to simplify work processes.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide text processing support under the direction of the lead/senior text processor.
  • Prepare technical documents using advanced knowledge of standard software and processes. Create styles and templates to simplify the text processing processes. Use INL standards, formatting, and styles to maintain lab compliance while still meeting customer needs.
  • Ensure assigned tasks are formatted according to customer specifications within company guidelines using provided templates. Working with large complex documents, presentations, reports, using and understanding Microsoft Office capabilities to include styles.
  • Estimate duration of projects and provide legitimate due dates.
  • Participate in a meeting environment to make changes to the documents, presentations, and reports on a screen in a conference room.
  • Identify and resolve formatting problems with general guidance in electronic copies of documents and incorporate special customer requirements. Interface daily with customers, including management, editors, operators, engineers, scientists, and administrators to achieve optimum output and milestones. Provide recommendations to customers on ways to accomplish jobs that might be time- and cost-saving.
  • Work in a fast-paced text processing organization with text processors, technical editors, and customers to ensure production schedules are met, using word processing equipment to complete assignments.
  • Detect and resolve text processing issues.
  • Interface with lead text processor to resolve questions and uncertainties related to documents.
  • Documents necessary information in job tracking databases. Monitor requests and close out jobs in databases when necessary. May maintain production and billing logs.
  • Verify accuracy, consistency, and completeness of documents, makes corrections, and obtain verification that job requirements have been obtained.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of complex machines utilized for position; responsibility for troubleshooting and maintenance necessary to ensure consistent operation at a high-quality level; and/or sophisticated manipulation of a database.
  • Ability to extract and compile a narrow range of data from written sources, from individuals by asking set questions, or from one or several given databases; coding based on prescribed, simple standards.  
  • Ability to summarize, revise, or make limited use of complex, technical, or specialized literature.
  • Ability visualize document format after content is rearranged and edited.

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Level 2: High school diploma or equivalent plus 2 years relevant experience. (Two years relevant experience and Vocational Certificate). 
  • Level 3: High school diploma or equivalent plus 3 years relevant experience. (Four years experience and Vocational Certificate) 
  • Microsoft Office Certified with no year’s relevant experience.
  • Basic computer skills such as user IDs, passwords, logging into applications.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L” clearance, which requires US Citizenship. 

Job Information: 

  • The pay range for this position is Level 2 ($22.43/hour - $37.00/hour)/Level 3 ($25.79/hour - $42.54/hour). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.

  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment. 

  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills. 

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, and work in an office environment. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type, handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires the operation of office equipment. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds with assistance. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with people is required.
