Responsibilities
 

Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking a Materials Manager. The Specific Manufacturing Capabilities (SMC) Materials Manager reports to the SMC Director and has leadership responsibility for the SMC Material organization covering the key functions of Production Planning & Inventory Control, Production & Maintenance procurement, Warehouse, Manufacturing Material control, Logistics, and Shipping & Receiving related functions operating within a complex and diverse manufacturing facility.

The SMC manufactures armor for the Department of Defense. Besides support production requirements, SMC has a technical research and development role in support of the U.S. Army’s armor program. The SMC is also responsible for the implementation and sustainment of manufacturing and facilities necessary to support the successful development and manufacture of armor.

The SMC Materials Manager has full responsibilities for the safe, effective, and compliant operation of materials management efforts covering production planning & inventory control, materials requirements & acquisition, inventory handling, storage and control, transportation, and management of vendor contracted services.

The SMC Materials Manager shall direct the following key areas & respective responsibilities:

 Production Planning & Inventory Control

- Evaluate, develop and maintain master schedule for production activities

- Support system integrity and effective use of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system

- Evaluate workload against critical resources and capacities, provide analysis and recommendations for supporting new orders and associated delivery schedules

- Track & determine material requirements against production requirements, work with Supply Chain to establish purchase orders. Resolve any materials related discrepancies with supply chain.

- Track and report production activities against master schedule, provide reports as requested.

- Maintain visibility and support of all production and maintenance related materials from ordering, stocking, and usage.

Production and Maintenance Material Control

- Support and maintain production & maintenance materials inventory, work with Operations, Engineering, and Maintenance organizations on the purchase, receipt, tracking, storage and issuance of materials & work orders.

- Maintain key stockrooms for maintenance, consumables, and tool crib items.

- Establish and manage key vendor materials & service contracts.

Logistics & Material Controls

- Shipping & transportation of finished goods, waste, chemical, excess & scrap materials.

- Manage production inventory stockrooms.

- Responsible for tracking and accountability of all production materials including classified materials from warehouse thru production processes

- Develop and support kitting of materials and related tooling/materials storage containers thru key production lines

- Coordination of shipment with transportation service providers thru final customer receipt.

- Maintain support related services such as laundry services and distribution.


Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Scientific (ex. Engineering, Physics, etc.) plus 13 years relevant experience in a proven progressive management responsibilities or an Advanced degree plus 11 years relevant experience.

 

- Relevant experience or specialized training in Defense Systems Acquisition process

- Senior level management experience and leadership experience in a manufacturing facility related desired, Demonstrated 20+ years in a manufacturing/supply chain environment

- Demonstrated ability to address supply chain/materials issues from prototype project thru full rate production and support critical product deliveries on-time and within budget.

- High level experience related to materials requirements planning and acquisition processes, demonstrate strong vendor communications skills such as planning, negotiations, supplier quality, and delivery.

 

Must be a U.S. citizen, be able to obtain and hold a “Q” clearance.
