Responsibilities
Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking a highly qualified researcher with a PhD in Nuclear Engineering (or comparable discipline). The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in neutronics analysis, reactor physics, irradiation experiment design/analysis, scientific programming and data management/visualization.
You will be a technical expert in the field of physics and neutronics analysis. You need to be capable of completing complex and advanced reactor physics analyses to support design, insertion, and shipment of irradiation tests conducted in the Advanced Test Reactor (ATR). Selects and broadly applies principles, theories, and concepts in nuclear engineering. You will develop new principles and concepts, and direct technical projects involving multidisciplinary activities. You will define the technical approach and set technical direction. You will seek, develop, apply and implement innovation as appropriate to meet program and sponsor needs. You will work on unusually complex problems and utilize specialized techniques to develop solutions that are innovative and ingenious. You will develop and implement R&D plans at the Laboratory and program level. You will develop and contribute to Laboratory and program strategy. You will act as Principal Investigator, conducting research, development, and analysis of nuclear fuels and materials, with emphasis on fuel performance and irradiation testing. You will provide internal and external leadership for nuclear fuels and materials programs, including direction of high-performance, multi-disciplinary research teams, principal investigators, engineers, and technicians. Independently identifies new research opportunities, directs technical teams to respond to those opportunities, generates proposals, and secures funding for the conduct of the research.

• PhD in nuclear science/engineering/physics (or similar discipline) and a minimum of 4 years applicable experience.
• Demonstrated experience in nuclear engineering, reactor physics, or nuclear safety analysis • Demonstrated experience with MCNP • Demonstrated experience with SCALE and ORIGEN • Excellent verbal and written communication skills The ideal candidate will possess the following experience: • Engineering design and analysis of irradiation experiments • Extensive use of High Performance Computer (HPC) systems • Benchmarking and validation activities associated with computer codes, models, and experimental data • Working knowledge of software development • Programming capabilities using FORTRAN, Python, and C++.
Must be a US Citizen. Must be able to obtain and maintain a US DOE L-clearance. | ||
