The Idaho National Laboratory’s (INL) Isotope Production department at the Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC), is seeking a Senior Manager. Our team works a 4x10 schedule located at the Materials and Fuels Complex with every Friday off.

The Senior Manager will implement, coordinate with cross-functional communication. Develop and establish operational policies within area managed. May participate in strategy development for corporate function. Requires detailed functional expertise and broad company knowledge.

 Responsibilities:

  • Manage the activities of a department or a discipline through subordinate supervisors and/or professionals.
  • Provide guidance to subordinates within the latitude of established company policies.
  • Responsible for the effective operation of activities of major significance to the organization. Decisions impact others in the immediate team and influences methods and techniques.
  • Execute financials, business planning, organizational priorities, and workforce planning. Ensure that budgets, schedules, and performance standards are realistically set and attained.
  • Typically manage employees who perform similar tasks. May manage supervisors, exempt, and non-exempt staff.
  • Receive objective based assignments and determine resources to meet schedules and goals.
  • Responsible for single function, location, and/or technical discipline.
  • Recommend changes to policies and establishes procedures that affect department or multiple disciplines.
  • Participate in the development of overall objectives and long-term goals of the department and possibly the division.
  • Interact frequently with subordinate supervisors, customers, and/or functional peer group professionals, involving matters between sections and multiple units.
  • Partner with key contacts outside own area of expertise and other external stakeholders.
  • Communicate and present results and recommendations across discipline.
  • Third level of management with human resource responsibilities. Typically, all work is performed through the management of others.

Position typically reports to a direct report of a Director, Sr. Director, or Senior Leadership.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must hold a master’s degree in Nuclear Engineering with 5 years relevant experience. 
  • Relevant experience will include nuclear engineering in radioisotopes power units and radioisotope heater units. 
  • Must have relevant experiment project management experience.  Experience moving experiments in TREAT is preferred.   
  • Knowledge of nuclear fuels and materials, irradiation testing, and post-irradiation examination preferred.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Willing to coach others in their career plan development.

Job Information: 

  • The target pay range for this position is $154,733 - $231,971 annually. The full pay range is $105,516 - $269,052. At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials. 
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship. 
  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.

Physical Requirements: 

While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, and work in an office and field/laboratory environment. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type, handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires operation of job-related equipment and driving a vehicle. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with the public is required.
